Swedish Forest Knife by Casstrom

A quick look at the Casstrom Swedish Forest Knife.

Well, I am a lucky boy. Saw this and wanted it!

I wanted it for three reasons, the Sandvik stainless steel, the flat grind (with secondary bevel) and the very beautiful curly birch scales in blue. And you kinda know you have ordered right when the vendor, The Natural Man, says “Good Choice” on the email receipt.

And it was a good choice!

I previously said that the Casstrom Woodsman knife was rather dull and uninspiring, a tool for a job and nothing more. Well, this little beauty is the absolute opposite. The length of the blade is perfect for me, the handle is just sublime, and as for the curly birch, it is like looking into a coral reef. It is a stunningly beautiful knife and the leather sheath is well made and solid...and black, which is nice.

The vital statistics are:

  • Satin finish blade
  • 3.8mm thick 10cm/4" long
  • Sandvik 14c28n stainless steel
  • 57-59 HRC

A full review will follow in due course.
