Morakniv Precision: the lilac one

Morakniv Sweden has a reputation for making low cost quality knives. Let’s look at the Mora Precision!

2.0mm thick, 75mm length with a scandi grind, wickedly sharp: feels like a Puukko with a rubberised non-slip handle. The blade doesn’t quite come out of the handle straight it is leaning to the left a little, making me think it has not been seated in the handle straight. Not a massive issue and certainly not for the price. Quality of the metal is very good, the blade is extremely sharp stainless steel. The sheath is plastic and very safe. Overall a bit cheap feeling but that is to be expected for the price.

As you know I assign a carving task to each knife I review. For the Mora Precision it is the whittling of the Blue Tit.

Just one word: Perfect!

Carves like a dream, dimensions of the knife make it perfect for whittling. There is however a slight flex in the blade and handle when taking bigger cuts. I wonder if this is combination of the 2mm stainless steel in the plastic handle? But not an issue. The stainless steel is good for low maintenance: throw it back in the cupboard after use.

Conclusion
I like the blade shape very much, although extremely pointy and I have jabbed it into my finger a few times whilst whittling. As an overall package this is a great whittling knife. I like the handle very much and the finger guard is a useful safety feature and provides a little more confidence (although may get in the way).

Summary:
Great quality for the price: excellent whittling knife. Love the blade dimensions and shapeBlade not quite straight out of handle. Stainless steel low maintenance.
